At Tondo we support changemakers and therefore we are pleased to announce an Innovation Call with a focus on the Circular Economy and related to our main event Re-think Circular Economy Forum! Startups that carry out activities related to the Circular Economy can apply to the Innovation Call organized by Tondo with different partners.

The call aims to select highly innovative projects that are feasible from a business point of view and capable of generating a strong positive impact on the environment. The call is open to the startups that are already established, or innovative ideas which are not yet materialized and which are operating in the thematic macro-areas that will be discussed during Re-think Circular Economy Forum (Agri-food, Cities, Materials and Technology), the event on the Circular Economy organized by Tondo on October 27th and 28th. The call might give to the selected startups the possibility to pitch during the main event and, in addition, the four winning startups (one for each macro-area) will receive some services from our partners (such as strategic and commercial support, help in applying to national and European grants,…), and a cash prize of 1.500 € will be awarded to the one that will achieve the highest score by the innovation jury. The macro-areas of the event, that are also the main focus of the Innovation Call are:

• Agri-food: agriculture 4.0, new types of cultivation such as Indoor and Vertical farming, and new methods of food preservation and transportation;
• Cities: urban context organized in a circular way, presenting actual projects, but also possible future trends with a focus on smart cities, mobility, biocycle & waste, urban, water, and air;
• Materials: biomaterials that are increasingly replacing synthetic ones, emerging practices in the reuse and regeneration of materials (organic and synthetic) and future trends in material science;
• Technologies: emerging technologies that overturn the concept of waste and optimize the use of resources with a focus on AI, IoT, blockchain, clean energy, storage, and digital application for the Circular Economy.

Jury, selection, and awards

The selection of the projects will be carried out by a jury which is composed of the partners of the innovation call and some additional innovation experts from Intesa (an IBM Company), Esselunga, EUREKA! Venture SGR , EIT Digital, Teads, Ayming, Comune di Milano, Tondo, InnoVits, Novu, Corner Stones and IREN.

The selection will take place in 4 phases: 

1. The first phase will consist of a first screening during which our team of experts will analyze the material uploaded in the form (accessible at the link above). This phase is aimed at defining the projects that potentially are most promising. 
2. In the next phase, the selected projects will be contacted by telephone for a short interview with a member of the Tondo team, in order to identify 3 projects for each of the macro-areas relevant to the event.
3. Companies that pass this second step will have the opportunity to pitch the project in front of the jury on October 26th at 6 pm. During the Pitching Session, the jury will have the task of defining the winner for each macro-area.
4. The 4 winning start-ups will be able to present themselves during the “Re-think Circular Economy Forum” event on October 27th and 28th in front of the main players operating in the Circular Economy in Italy and internationally: from Corporates to Venture Capital funds.

In addition, a cash prize of 1.500 € will be awarded to the startup that achieve the highest score by the innovation jury, and to all the four winning startups (one for each macro-area) will be offered the opportunity to receive some services from our partners, such as: support from Ayming for the participation to European or national grants; business development and commercial support from Novu to support company growth; participation at “Ninja Agorà” InnoVits format, where winning startups can present their idea to all InnoVits associates and investors.                       

Admission criteria

Furthermore, the competition is open to all startups or circular business ideas where circular means a startup or a project that adopts one of the following business models:

• They use sustainable or renewable inputs in production processes (i.e., renewable energy, organic and regenerable materials)
• They are based on a sharing economy model (i.e., Car sharing)
• They offer a product as a service (i.e., Virtual environment …)
• They aim to extend the useful life of products (i.e., used items Marketplace)
• They plan the end-of-life of products (i.e., use of production waste, reduction of waste)
• They adopt technology for resource optimization and efficiency (i.e, use of AI for monitoring of consumptions)
• They design products for extended future use and reusability

How to participate?

To participate, the teams have to submit their project by filling out the application form which will be accessible from September 15th, 2020 to October 22nd, 2020 at 6 pm.

A Tondo sosteniamo gli innovatori e quindi siamo lieti di annunciare una Innovation Call con un focus sull’Economia Circolare e relativa al nostro evento principale Re-think Circular Economy Forum! Le startup che svolgono attività legate all’Economia Circolare possono candidarsi all’Innovation Call organizzata dal Tondo con diversi partner.

Il bando ha l’obiettivo di selezionare progetti altamente innovativi, realizzabili dal punto di vista commerciale e in grado di generare un forte impatto positivo sull’ambiente. Il bando è aperto alle startup già affermate, o alle idee non ancora concretizzate che operano nelle macroaree tematiche che saranno discusse nel corso di Re-think Circular Economy Forum (Agroalimentare, Città, Materiali e Tecnologia), l’evento sull’Economia Circolare organizzato dal Tondo il 27 e 28 ottobre. Il bando potrebbe dare alle startup selezionate la possibilità di presentare la propria candidatura durante l’evento principale e, inoltre, le quattro startup vincitrici (una per ogni macroarea) riceveranno alcuni servizi dai nostri partner (come il supporto strategico e commerciale, l’aiuto nella richiesta di sovvenzioni nazionali ed europee,…), e un premio in denaro di 1.500 € sarà assegnato a quella che otterrà il punteggio più alto dalla giuria dell’innovazione. Le macroaree dell’evento, che sono anche il focus principale dell’Innovation Call, sono:

• Agroalimentare: agricoltura 4.0, nuovi tipi di coltivazione come l’Indoor e Vertical farming, e nuovi metodi di conservazione e trasporto degli alimenti;
• Città: contesto urbano organizzato in modo circolare, presentando progetti concreti, ma anche possibili tendenze future con un focus sulle smart city, la mobilità, il biociclo e i rifiuti, l’urbanistica, l’acqua e l’aria;
• Materiali: biomateriali che stanno sempre più sostituendo quelli sintetici, pratiche emergenti nel riutilizzo e nella rigenerazione dei materiali (organici e sintetici) e tendenze future nella scienza dei materiali;
• Tecnologie: tecnologie emergenti che ribaltano il concetto di rifiuto e ottimizzano l’uso delle risorse con un focus su AI, IoT, blockchain, energia pulita, stoccaggio e applicazione digitale per l’economia circolare.

Giuria, selezione e premi

La selezione dei progetti sarà effettuata da una giuria composta dai partner dell’Innovation Call e da altri esperti di innovazione di Intesa (una società IBM), Esselunga, EUREKA! Venture SGR , EIT Digital, Teads, Ayming, Comune di Milano, Tondo, InnoVits, Novu, Corner Stones e IREN.

La selezione si svolgerà in 4 fasi:

1. La prima fase consisterà in una prima proiezione durante la quale il nostro team di esperti analizzerà il materiale caricato nel modulo (accessibile al link sopra). Questa fase è finalizzata alla definizione dei progetti potenzialmente più promettenti.
2. Nella fase successiva, i progetti selezionati saranno contattati telefonicamente per un breve colloquio con un membro del team Tondo, al fine di individuare 3 progetti per ciascuna delle macroaree rilevanti per l’evento.
3. Le aziende che superano questa seconda fase avranno la possibilità di presentare il progetto davanti alla giuria il 26 ottobre alle 18.00. Durante la Pitching Session, la giuria avrà il compito di definire il vincitore per ogni macroarea.
4. Le 4 start-up vincitrici potranno presentarsi durante l’evento “Re-think Circular Economy Forum” il 27 e 28 ottobre davanti ai principali attori della Circular Economy in Italia e a livello internazionale: dalle aziende ai fondi di Venture Capital.

Inoltre, un premio in denaro di 1.500 € sarà assegnato alla startup che avrà ottenuto il punteggio più alto dalla giuria, e a tutte e quattro le startup vincitrici (una per ogni macroarea) sarà offerta la possibilità di ricevere alcuni servizi da parte dei nostri partner, quali: il supporto di Ayming per la partecipazione a sovvenzioni europee o nazionali; lo sviluppo del business e il supporto commerciale di Novu per sostenere la crescita dell’azienda; la partecipazione al format InnoVits “Ninja Agorà”, dove le startup vincitrici potranno presentare la loro idea a tutti i soci e gli investitori InnoVits.                       

Criteri di ammissione

Il concorso è aperto a tutte le startup o idee di business circolari, dove per circolare si intende una startup o un progetto che adotta uno dei seguenti modelli di business:

• Utilizzano input sostenibili o rinnovabili nei processi produttivi (ad esempio, energia rinnovabile, materiali organici e rigenerabili)
• Si basano su un modello di economia di condivisione (ad esempio, Car sharing)
• Offrono un prodotto come servizio (cioè, ambiente virtuale …)
• Essi mirano a prolungare la vita utile dei prodotti (ad esempio, gli articoli usati Marketplace)
• Pianificano la fine del ciclo di vita dei prodotti (cioè l’utilizzo degli scarti di produzione, la riduzione dei rifiuti)
• Adottano la tecnologia per l’ottimizzazione e l’efficienza delle risorse (cioè l’uso dell’intelligenza artificiale per il monitoraggio dei consumi)
• Progettano prodotti per un uso futuro esteso e riutilizzabili

Come partecipare?

Per partecipare, i team devono presentare il loro progetto compilando il modulo di iscrizione che sarà accessibile dal 15 settembre 2020 al 22 ottobre 2020 alle ore 18.00.
