Report conclusivo di Re-think Circular Economy Forum Taranto
Re-think Circular Economy Forum tenutosi a Taranto il 28 e 29 settembre 2021 si è concluso con l’obiettivo di fare emergere le numerose opportunità e potenzialità del territorio tarantino e pugliese in ambito di sostenibilità ed economia circolare. Durante i due giorni di evento più di 40 sono state le realtà nazionali ed internazionali coinvolte per la presentazione di progetti, ricerche, attività imprenditoriali ed innovative e le varie opportunità del territorio sul tema della circolarità.
Gli argomenti sui quali si è scelto di focalizzarsi, sulla base anche del contesto e delle iniziative che si stanno portando avanti sulla transizione verde e la circolarità in questo territorio, sono stati: transizione energetica e mobilità sostenibile, porti circolari e gestione ambientale.
L’obiettivo di questo incontro tra personalità di spicco del territorio locale, nazionale ed internazionale è stato di presentare ed approfondire per un vasto pubblico, i trend e le tecnologie esistenti o in fase di sviluppo dei tre settori sopra citati.
Dalle presentazioni dei relatori sono stati numerosi gli spunti, tra cui, ad esempio, l’importanza e l’impegno di molte aziende sul fronte della decarbonizzazione del settore energetico e dei trasporti tramite l’elettrificazione, l’adozione di bio-fuel e più in generale tramite la valorizzazione energetica dei rifiuti. Inoltre, come hanno anche confermato gli esperti, l’idrogeno avrà un ruolo centrale, principalmente in quei settori dove, ad oggi, non esistono soluzioni efficienti e percorribili per la riduzione dell’impronta carbonica.
Anche le comunità energetiche, ad esempio, coinvolgendo attivamente cittadinanza e aziende in un lavoro di squadra, contribuiscono concretamente alla decarbonizzazione, modificando i ruoli tradizionali del consumatore, che diventa produttore, e del fornitore di energia che diventa anche fornitore di servizi.
I porti e il trasporto marittimo, elementi essenziali della città di Taranto e in tutte quelle che si trovano sulla costa, si dovranno trasformare in hub di mobilità a basse emissioni e fulcro del trasporto multimodale per ricoprire un ruolo attivo nella transizione verso una mobilità sostenibile e intelligente in linea con gli obiettivi del Green Deal europeo. Inoltre, la valorizzazione dei rifiuti può offrire non solo nuove opportunità economiche, ma anche benefici per la società e per l’ambiente, nonché contribuire alla decarbonizzazione dei porti e del settore marittimo.
Infine, per quanto riguarda la gestione ambientale, la nuova strategia di gestione dei rifiuti urbani europea punta alla riduzione della produzione del rifiuto attraverso nuove forme di prevenzione, alla massimizzazione del riciclo e del recupero dei rifiuti, alla produzione di end of waste ed alla minimizzazione dello smaltimento in discarica.
Tra gli esempi citati vi è la possibilità di riciclare pneumatici fuori uso reintroducendo la gomma riciclata nel circuito economico e industriale, ampiamente utilizzata in moltissimi settori, dallo sport alle infrastrutture, dalle aree gioco agli isolanti acustici.
Main partner dell’iniziativa è stata Eni, società integrata dell’energia impiegata nella transizione energetica per raggiungere la totale decarbonizzazione di prodotti e processi entro il 2050. Gli ulteriori partner dell’evento sono stati: il Comune di Taranto, l’associazione Eurota ETS, UniCredit, Fondazione ITS Logistica, EPM Servizi, Confapi Industria Taranto e New Euroart.

Re-think Circular Economy Forum, held in Taranto on the 28th and the 29th of September 2021, concluded with the aim of bringing out the numerous opportunities and potential of Taranto and Apulian territory in the field of sustainability and circular economy. During the two-day event, more than 40 national and international entities were involved in the presentation of projects, research, entrepreneurial and innovative activities and the various opportunities of the territory on the theme of circularity.
The topics we decided to focus on, also based on the context and the initiatives that are being carried out on green transition and circularity in this territory, were: energy transition and sustainable mobility, circular ports and environmental and waste management.
The aim of this event between leading figures from the local, national and international area was to present and explore to a wide audience, the trends and technologies that exist or are being developed in the three sectors mentioned above.
Speakers’ presentations provided numerous insights into the topics, including, for example, the importance and commitment of many companies to the decarbonisation of the energy and transport sector through electrification, the adoption of bio-fuels and more generally through the energy valorisation of waste. Moreover, hydrogen, as claimed by the experts, will play a central role especially in those sectors where, at the moment, there are no efficient and viable solutions for reducing the carbon footprint.
Energy communities, for example, by actively involving citizens and companies in a team effort, make a concrete contribution to decarbonisation as well, changing the traditional roles of the consumer, who becomes a producer, and of the energy supplier, who also becomes a service provider.
Ports and maritime transport, which are essential elements in Taranto and in all cities along the coast, should be transformed into low-emission mobility hubs and multimodal transport hubs to play an active role in the transition towards sustainable and efficient mobility in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal. Moreover, waste recovery can offer not only new economic opportunities, but also benefits for society and the environment, and contribute to the decarbonisation of ports and the maritime sector.
Finally, with regard to environmental and waste management, the new European municipal waste management strategy aims to reduce waste production through new forms of prevention, maximise recycling and recovery of waste, produce end-of-waste and minimise landfill. An example can be the possibility to recycle end-of-life tyres by reintroducing recycled rubber into the economic and industrial circuit, widely used in many sectors, from sport to infrastructure, from playgrounds to acoustic insulation.
The initiative’s main partner was Eni, an integrated energy company involved in the energy transition to achieve total decarbonisation of products and processes by 2050. Other partners of the event were: the Municipality of Taranto, the association Eurota ETS, UniCredit, Fondazione ITS Logistica, EPM Servizi, Confapi Industria Taranto and New Euroart.
