Companies, Organizations, Institutions, startups and research institutions presented their circular projects to foster the emergence of innovative and entrepreneurial activities in the Campania region and nationwide.

Milan, July 13, 2022 – Thursday, June 30, at the Darwin Dohrn Museum (DaDoM) of the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station in Napoli, the sixth edition of Re-think – Circular Economy Forum took place, in attendance by invitation and, for the general public, visible online.
The guests were diverse, including institutions, research organizations, universities, startups and companies, both local, national and international, who presented their projects and entrepreneurial initiatives aimed at transforming the linear system in which we live into circular. The circular economy was the core focus of the day, which began with greetings from the institutions and an introduction to the cultural change, thanks to the diffusion of new values, that must take place to facilitate the introduction of more sustainable practices and incentivize the circular transition. In addition, it discussed the link between innovation and the circular economy; which must start from re-design at the head of production processes, also thanks to the backing of institutions and supporting actors.
The first thematic area covered was circular ports and tourism, a sector, particularly of interest to the city of Napoli. From the many insights emerged the need to change one’s approach, emphasizing how ports are the right places to implement the circular economy, how the problem of waste at sea is now an increasingly damaging issue for Italian coasts, and how tourism needs to be rethought more respectful of others and the environment.
Late in the morning, the round table opened, an opportunity for dialogue between various technical and scientific actors part of the ecosystem in support of local and national change, during which they expressed their different visions and the projects they are pursuing.
The proceedings then continued by focusing on the topic of the agribusiness sector. The speakers shared their reflections and initiated projects that highlight how agri-food systems must respond to climate change, seek to reduce food waste, and finally change the way productions are developed, considering focal issues such as rethinking packaging.
After a brief discussion on the evolution of research, it was time for the last thematic area of the day, related to the textile and fashion sector which is characteristic of the Italian territory Campania. They talked about an industry that wants to be able to propose sustainable choices and to enhance the value of raw-second materials in new products, between new ideas and ancient traditions while remaining internationally competitive.
The speeches that followed during the day highlighted a wide variety of project types implemented both by institutions that have been consolidated over time and by new realities in the process of development and growth; without neglecting the importance that research has in making progress toward a more sustainable and tangible circular system.
“The Forum is beginning to spread throughout the Peninsula, as we would have wished from the beginning as an opportunity to meet, we talked about issues that are currently very relevant to all of us,” comments Francesco Castellano, Founder and President of Tondo. “We are therefore very content with the great success of this forum, in one of the pivotal cities of the Mediterranean such as Napoli, particularly for the variety of topics that emerged and their relevance for the city itself but also for other neighboring realities and the rest of the Mezzogiorno.”

Aziende, Organizzazioni, istituzioni, startup ed enti di ricerca hanno presentato i loro percorsi circolari per favorire la nascita di attività innovative e imprenditoriali sul territorio campano e a livello nazionale.

Milano, 13 luglio 2022 – Giovedì 30 giugno, presso il Museo Darwin Dohrn (DaDoM) della Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn a Napoli, si è svolta la sesta edizione di Re-think – Circular Economy Forum, in presenza su invito e, per il grande pubblico, visibile online.
Gli ospiti sono stati diversi, tra istituzioni, enti di ricerca, università, startup ed aziende, sia locali, che nazionali ed internazionali, che hanno presentato i loro progetti ed iniziative imprenditoriali volti a trasformare il sistema lineare in cui viviamo in circolare. L’economia circolare è stato il focus principale della giornata, iniziata con i saluti delle istituzioni e con un’introduzione sul cambiamento culturale, grazie alla diffusione di nuovi valori, che deve avvenire per facilitare l’introduzione di pratiche più sostenibili e incentivare la transizione circolare. Inoltre, si è parlato del legame tra innovazione ed economia circolare; che deve partire dal ripensamento della progettazione a capo dei processi produttivi, anche grazie al sostegno di istituzioni e attori di supporto.
La prima area tematica trattata è stata quella dei porti e del turismo circolari, settore particolarmente d’interesse per la città di Napoli. Dai molti spunti è emersa l’esigenza di cambiare il proprio approccio, sottolineando come i porti siano i luoghi adatti all’implementazione dell’economia circolare, come il problema dei rifiuti in mare sia ormai una questione sempre più dannosa per le coste italiane e di come il turismo debba essere ripensato più rispettoso degli altri e dell’ambiente.
In tarda mattinata, si è aperta la tavola rotonda, occasione di dialogo tra vari attori tecnico-scientifici parte dell’ecosistema in supporto al cambiamento locale e nazionale, durante la quale hanno espresso le loro diverse visioni e i progetti portati avanti.
I lavori sono poi proseguiti focalizzandosi sul tema del settore agroalimentare. I relatori hanno condiviso le loro riflessioni e progetti avviati che evidenziano come i sistemi agroalimentari debbano rispondere ai cambiamenti climatici, cercare di ridurre lo spreco alimentare, ed infine cambiare il modo in cui le produzioni sono sviluppate, considerando questione focali, come il ripensamento del packaging.
Dopo un breve approfondimento sull’evoluzione della ricerca, è stato il momento dell’ultima area tematica della giornata, legata al settore del tessile e della moda caratterizzante del territorio campano ed italiano. Si è parlato di un’industria che vuole essere in grado di proporre scelte sostenibili e di valorizzare le materie prime-seconde in nuovi prodotti, tra nuove idee e antiche tradizioni restando competitivi a livello internazionale.
Gli interventi susseguitisi durante la giornata hanno evidenziato una grande varietà di progettualità messe in atto sia da istituzioni consolidatesi nel tempo, che da nuove realtà in fase di sviluppo e crescita; senza tralasciare l’importanza che la ricerca ha nel rendere più tangibili i progressi verso un sistema più sostenibile e circolare.
“Il Forum sta iniziando a diffondersi in tutta la Penisola, come avremmo voluto sin dall’inizio in quanto occasione di incontro abbiamo parlato di temi attualmente molto rilevanti per tutti noi – commenta Francesco Castellano, Fondatore e Presidente di Tondo – Siamo perciò molto contenti del grande successo di questo forum, in una delle città fulcro del Mediterraneo quale è Napoli, in particolare per la varietà di argomenti emersi e per la loro rilevanza per la città stessa ma anche per le altre realtà vicine ed il resto del Mezzogiorno.”
