English In this episode we will talk about construction with Giangavino Muresu, Founder of Milk Brick, and we will find out that milk can be not only in the refrigerator but also in the walls of the house. Milk Brick aims to revolutionize the construction industry by recovering waste milk from the dairy industry and waste milk from large-scale distribution and transforming it into new secondary raw material to be used in the industrial production of hundreds of products for the building industry. In fact, if we think that in the construction industry more than 400 million tons of materials are used every year, many of which have a negative impact on the environment, innovative solutions such as those of the start-up Milk Brick are not only interesting but above all necessary. 13 January 2021English In this episode with Tommaso Barbieri, Co-founder of TomaPaint, we will dive in the world of tomato preserves and in the use of production waste for the development of organic paints. We will thus discover that our beloved tomato puree and peeled tomatoes hide inside the can a paint of petrochemical origin, which serves to avoid contact between the food and the can. The production of these paints often takes place abroad, using precious resources and emitting an average of 30,000 tons of CO2 per year. However, from the 1940s a solution arrived, made modern by the innovative start-up Tomapaint. The solution, which uses cutin to produce bio-paint, can save 730 mg of CO2 per can, reducing emissions by approximately 1 million kilograms of CO2 per year. The interview below is in English Italiano In questo episodio ci immergeremo con Tommaso Barbieri, Co-founder di TomaPaint, nel mondo delle conserve di pomodoro e nell’uso degli scarti della produzione per lo sviluppo di vernici biologiche. Scopriremo così che le nostre amate passate di pomodoro e pelati nascondono all’interno della lattina una vernice di origine petrolchimica, che serve ad evitare il contatto tra l’alimento e la lattina. La produzione di queste vernici avviene spesso all’estero, con utilizzo di preziose risorse ed emettendo in media 30’000 tonnellate all’anno di CO2. Dagli anni ’40 arriva però una soluzione, resa moderna dalla start-up innovativa Tomapaint. La soluzione, che utilizza la cutina per produrre biovernice, permetterà di risparmiare 730 mg di CO2 per ogni lattina, riducendo le emissioni di circa 1 milione di chilogrammi di CO2 all’anno.
