With the COVID-19 emergency we are going through, packaging, even disposable packaging is somehow back in the news. While on the one hand packaging makes food safer, on the other hand it can have harmful effects on health due to both the release of chemicals over time and the environmental impact produced once their use is over.
Packtin has thus set three important challenges: to reduce food waste, to save material and energy in the packaging disposal process and to start a virtuous circle of materials of organic origin. The result is a packaging with 0% chemicals, made of only natural elements that extends the shelf life of the product. The interview below is in Italian.

In questa puntata torniamo a parlare di bioeconomia con Andrea Quartieri, Co-founder di Packtin, una start-up di economia circolare impegnata nell’innovazione del packaging alimentare.
Con l’emergenza COVID-19 che stiamo attraversando, il packaging, anche usa e getta è tornato in qualche modo alla ribalta. Se da un lato le confezioni rendono il cibo più sicuro, d’altra parte possono avere effetti nocivi sulla salute sia per il rilascio nel tempo di sostanze chimiche sia per l’impatto ambientale prodotto una volta terminato il loro utilizzo.
Packtin si pone così tre importanti sfide: ridurre lo spreco alimentare, far risparmiare materia ed energia nel processo di smaltimento del packaging e avviare un circolo virtuoso di materiali di origine organica. Il risultato è un packaging con 0% di prodotti chimici, fatto di soli elementi naturali che estende la shelf life del prodotto.
