Milan, August 24th, 2021 – With the aim of fostering the emergence of innovative and entrepreneurial activities in the Apulian territory, Tondo, an international organization operating in the circular economy sector, announces the organization of the next appointment of Re-think Circular Economy Forum to be held in Taranto on September 28 and 29, 2021. It is a large event in a dual-mode both in physical presence and online, this is the link for registration

Among the partners, the City of Taranto and the association ETS Eurota, territorial partner of Tondo for Re-think Circular Economy Forum in the city of two seas, ITS Logistics Foundation and Epm Servizi. The circular economy will be the undisputed protagonist. Specifically, relevant topics for the Taranto area will be discussed, such as the energy transition and renewable energy, environmental and waste management, and circular ports. In fact, will be outlined the emerging trends and technologies that use new clean energy sources, which transform the ports into places where to implement the circular economy, and that allow the recovery of the environment and the ecosystem, the waste management from plastics and tires, and the production of bioplastics from organic waste.

We immediately identified an important connection – explains the mayor of Taranto, Rinaldo Meluccibetween the activities of Tondo and the Eurota association and the principles of our energy, economic and ecological transition plan “Ecosistema Taranto“. For this reason, we had no doubts about the possibility of being partners in this initiative, which in some ways describes the path that Taranto is already on“.

As mentioned, the event will be conducted in a mixed way. The speakers, the main stakeholders, and a limited audience will be present, while the general public can access it remotely. Many exceptional guests, from organizations and institutions to companies, startups, and universities, will intervene bringing their vision and testimony about the various projects put in place to support the transition towards greater circularity. The main sponsor of the initiative is Eni, an integrated energy company committed to the energy transition with concrete actions to achieve total decarbonization of products and processes by 2050. Thanks to its historical presence in the area, the company has established important relationships with the social fabric, making available its knowledge and resources, in line with the territory, to give voice to its many potentials.

Actually, during these two days, not only testimonials of the Italian scene, but also companies, startups, and other European institutions will enrich the forum, presenting their innovative projects within the different sessions of the event.

We immediately welcomed with enthusiasm the invitation to organize Re-think in Taranto by the Municipality of Taranto. We are dedicating energy and passion to Re-think Taranto – comments Francesco Castellano, founder, and president of Tondoand we are happy and proud of this project.” “Taranto has a strong need and incredible potential for a circular restart and Tondo definitely wants to support this path” – concludes Francesco Fumarola, co-founder of Tondo.

Re-think will be an important networking opportunity to shorten the distances between the local, national and international production sectors. The path to the circular economy can be effective and smooth only by pooling knowledge, skills, and best practices in order to convert the production system towards greater sustainability and circularity.

With the contribution of Eni, co-protagonist in the organization of the first Re-think in Taranto, Tondo is also pursuing additional activities to be carried out in parallel to the event, including a Hackathon addressed to university students of the Apulian territory and an Innovation Call targeted to startups and scale-ups operating in the Apulian territory, as well as working on a training project for middle and high schools to disseminate the principles of circular economy and develop specific workshops with teachers and students to design potential projects to be implemented in the Taranto area.

Re-think’s partner will also be ITS Logistica Puglia, an academy of high scientific-technological specialization born right in Taranto in 2015. “From day one, we have bet on research and training to support new economies for the territory,” explains Silvio Busico, president of the Fondazione ITS Logistica. “Logistics and sustainable mobility are not only fundamental pillars in the complex mechanism of circular economies – clarifies the newly elected representative of the supply chain within the ITS Italy System – but also the ideal ground for process innovation through digitalization and artificial intelligence. This has allowed us to stimulate self-entrepreneurship among young people and accelerate numerous start-ups over the years. We have thus experienced first-hand how much positive energy can be injected into the territory by that innovativeness and creativity that perfectly embody the spirit of Re-think.”

The fourth Re-think event also has Epm Servizi as a partner which, as the CEO Carmine Esposito states, contains important challenges and opportunities for our economic system in Southern Italy and in general for the productive world in terms of sustainability.

At the moment Re-think Taranto has already obtained the patronage of Ministry of Ecological Transition, Apulia Region, Province of Taranto, Anci, Confindustria Taranto, Ionian Sea Port Authority, Confapi Industria Taranto, Order of Engineers of Taranto, University of Bari, Polytechnic of Bari, LUM Giuseppe Degennaro University, University of Foggia and the University of Salento.
