Connecting Challenge

The contest

FiberCop, in collaboration with Tondo, is organising the FiberCop Connecting Challenge, a contest aimed at high school students from all over Italy.

Imagining the future of the hi-tech world, broadband network connections play a key role in the continuous technological evolution. To support the development of new technologies such as IoT (Internet of Things), AI (Artificial Intelligence) and 5G, network infrastructures need to adapt to new needs and emerging models.

The challenge proposed by FiberCop to Italian schools is to realise a project that integrates development, innovation and sustainability, with a focus on broadband connections and new technologies, exploring how these connections can concretely contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.

Each participating team is asked to create a video pitch presenting its project, focusing on one or more key areas of sustainable development.

Purpose

Innovation and Creativity

To present projects related to the theme of connections, to encourage the dissemination of a culture of innovation and the emergence of innovative activities that bring out creativity and inventiveness, as well as generate a positive impact on the local system

Knowledge and training

To disseminate key concepts of sustainability and circularity among young students, which can generate cultural change. The contest will also favour the personal and professional growth of the students as it will allow them to confront themselves with a business reality

Sustainable Development

Encourage the development of sustainable projects and make students aware of the importance of technological solutions that improve everyday life, respect the environment, reduce the impact of human activities and promote sustainable growth

Kick Off Day

The initiative will be explained in detail during Kick Off Day, an online event to be held on 10 December at noon: this will be an opportunity for representatives of FiberCop to present the contest in detail, answering any questions and explaining all aspects of the initiative.

Registration is open from 10 December 2024 until 3 February 2025. Each school can participate with one or more teams of five to ten students. Registration is free of charge, but places are limited to a maximum of fifty teams.

To register, complete the registration form published in this section from 10 December.

Learning

From 3 February, applicant teams can participate in in-depth sessions organised by FiberCop and Tondo on topics useful for project development. The four scheduled meetings are dedicated to the following topics: Design Thinking, Empathy, Technologies and Prototyping.

Technical and non-technical questions can be addressed to the e-mail info@tondo.tech

Final project

The final output of the contest is a PowerPoint presentation and a video lasting approximately five minutes in which the students illustrate their project proposal. The project should start from a challenge related to new technologies and broadband connections, highlighting an opportunity for improvement and suggesting a solution that considers economic, environmental and social sustainability. The jury will assess the originality of the project, its feasibility and its level of innovation.

Reasons to participate

Development of transversal skills: By working in teams, students will improve communication skills, learn to manage time and relationships effectively, and develop creativity in solving problems.

Contribution to innovation and development: They will be able to try their hand at finding innovative and sustainable solutions, applying ideas and knowledge to real situations, and preparing themselves to be active agents of change.

Networking and exchange: An opportunity to get closer to the world of technology, and meet industry experts and professionals from FiberCop who work daily in the development of new ideas.

An initiative that combines learning, creativity and the future!

Jury and awards

Participating teams will have until 18 May to submit their projects, which will be evaluated by a FiberCop jury with the support of Tondo. The ten most interesting projects will be selected to participate in the final pitching event.

The winner of the Challenge will be selected by a jury from FiberCop and the students present on the day of the event.

The school of the winning team will receive a voucher prize worth two thousand euros.
