Re-think Taranto 2022: Event

PRESS RELEASE

RE-THINK CIRCULAR ECONOMY FORUM RETURNS TO TARANTO

Milan, 8 August 2022 – Just under two months to go until ‘Re-think – Circular Economy Forum’, which will be held for the second time in Taranto on 3, 4 and 5 October, in the premises of the Ionian Department of the University of Bari.

After the great success of the first edition, the circular economy returns as the protagonist of the event that brings together experts, scholars, companies, start-ups and institutions, in various capacities committed to the themes of innovation and sustainability.

The hybrid modality is confirmed – in-person and remote – to narrate and illustrate the most impactful and promising projects implemented in Apulia and beyond in the circular economy field. The initiative will have a national and international scope, with a single objective: to stimulate change towards circularity. It will be possible to participate in all the planned events by registering on the dedicated page.

The first edition of Re-think Taranto, last September, was a great success, reaching over 4000 people in attendance and remotely. That success ensured that Taranto was confirmed as the venue for this ambitious Circular Economy fair, with some innovations that will increase the value of the event.

Re-think has confronted us with the potential of this path,– commented Taranto’s mayor Rinaldo Melucci – it has revealed how the circular economy is a mine of opportunities that here, in a land that aspires to be a paradigm of resilience, we must exploit to the full. We welcome all partners and, with them, we are committed to being standard-bearers for a newfound sustainability.”

The themes on which it was decided to focus due to their territorial, national and European relevance are: renewable energies, which are now considered essential for developing sustainable energy independence; sustainable mobility, which will enable communities to connect with each other in an innovative and conscious way; agri-food, one of the most important economic and social sectors in the Apulia region and in need of a clear transition; blue economy, which characterises the Taranto, Apulian and Italian territory and which is fundamental to continue communicating and transporting at today’s levels; water, a symbol of life and which is starting to become scarce, as demonstrated also by the drought; and the valorisation of waste, the generation of which is constantly growing and which still contains much usable hidden value.

We see this initiative as an important opportunity, – commented Rocco De Franchi, Head of Institutional Communication of the Apulia Region, – to involve young people from Apulia and beyond, with a view to sustainable and circular development, and to involve businesses and the research sector at regional, national and international level.”

The event is organised by Tondo in collaboration with Eurota ETS and has as its main partner Eni, an integrated energy company committed to the energy transition with concrete actions to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Further partners of the event are: Apulia Region, Taranto Municipality, UniCredit, Confapi Industria Taranto, Netherland Embassy in Rome, Adnkronos as media partner, Cantine San Marzano as technical partner and Smallfish as graphic partner.

We are very happy – commented Francesco Castellano, Founder of Tondo – to carry on our project of a Circular Taranto, with the aim of creating more and more circular economy initiatives in the city and region, and for this we thank all the partners who have believed in and supported the project.

On the occasion of this second edition in Taranto and following last year’s surprising success, Tondo is also organising further activities that will be carried out in parallel with the conference, a Hackathon (the deadline for registration is 25 September, here is the link to register) and an exhibition area.

The initiative has obtained the patronage of the European Commission Representation in Italy, MITE, MIPAAF, Taranto Province, Taranto Chamber of Commerce, Ionian Sea Port System Authority, Confindustria Taranto, Confapi Industria Taranto, Taranto Order of Engineers, SIMA, Kyma Ambiente, IRSA – CNR, ARTI Puglia, Jonan Dolphin Conservation, University of Bari Aldo Moro, Bari Polytechnic, University of Foggia, University of Salento and LUM University.
